座繰り製糸 – Book Cover Design

Personal Project

座繰り製糸

Illustration medium
Gouache and digital painting

Made for a hypothetical non-fiction documentation of the techniques and tools used in traditional silk reeling. The aim was to make the overall design feel fun and approachable, while showcasing a moment of dedication to the handcraft.

The central image, as seen trough cocoon-shaped cut-outs, was painted in gouache after seeing silk thread being made manually in Japan. The spool of silk thread and silkworm were painted digitally to compliment and clarify the message of the topic.
